Road Closure/Restriction of A140

Norfolk County Council proposes to make a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (the “Order”) (STRO14562) affecting the A) A140 Norwich Road/Ipswich Road from its junction with the C497 Bungay Roundabout to its junction with the A140 Ipswich Road Southern Bypass Roundabout (“Road A”) and B) U71618 Ipswich Road Dairy Farm Layby from its junction with the A140 Ipswich Road for 98 metres northwards (“Road B”) in the Parishes of Stoke Holy Cross, Swainsthorpe, Newton Flotman and Tasburgh to facilitate carriageway resurfacing, the Roads will be subject to the following restrictions for the duration of the works/period the closure is necessary which is anticipated to be from 5th to 16th May 2026, but may continue to be closed/restricted until the 27th June 2026 where the closure/restriction is still required beyond the anticipated dates:
i. Road A will be temporarily closed/restricted (except for pedestrian access) between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00 and temporarily subject to a 30 miles per hour speed restriction
ii. Road B will be temporarily closed/restricted (except for pedestrian access).
Alternative route is via: A47 Trunk Road, A146 Loddon Road / Norwich Road / Loddon Bypass / Beccles Road, A143 Yarmouth Road / Kirby Cane Bypass / Yarmouth Road / Broome Bypass / Bungay Road / Old Railway Road / Bungay Road / Harleston Bypass / Brockdish Needham Bypass / Scole Road / Bungay Road / Lower Street / Bungay Road / Scole Stuston Bypass, A140 Scole Bypass / Dickleburgh Bypass / Long Stratton Bypass / Ipswich Road / The Street / Norwich Road / Ipswich Road / Norwich Road / Ipswich Road. (Brome and Oakley, Stockton, Framingham Pigot, Brockdish, Pulham Market, Redenhall with Harleston, Bungay, Earsham, Ellingham, Ditchingham, Stuston, Chedgrave, Trowse with Newton, Kirby Bedon, Denton, Dickleburgh and Rushall, Yelverton, Keswick and Intwood, Broome, Needham, Hellington, Hales, Scole, Tivetshall, Wacton, Gillingham, Ashby St. Mary, Loddon, Long Stratton, Sisland, Thurton, Caistor St. Edmund and Bixley, Wortwell, Kirby Cane, Alburgh, Burston and Shimpling, Holverston).
The works promoter for this restriction/closure is: Norfolk County Council.
Vehicular access will be permitted to a final destination in the Roads A and B where signs indicating such access is possible and permitted are in place.
The Order shall automatically revoke on the completion of the works/when the closure is no longer necessary or otherwise on the 27th June 2026 without further notice.
If necessary, the restriction could run for a maximum period of 18 months from the date the Order is effective.
A person who contravenes, or who uses or permits the use of a vehicle in contravention of the restriction/closure imposed by the Order shall be guilty of an offence.
Penalty: £1000 maximum fine on conviction and/or endorsement for contravention.
In the event of the start date being delayed the new start date will be displayed on site in advance.
